Jessica Maya: Welcome, this is Jessica Maya with www.tryitoneverything.com and if this is your first time with us please go to www.tryitoneverything.com/instruction.htm and this way you can become familiar with EFT. Today we’re going to be talking about one of the biggest challenges for Americans...losing weight. Two-thirds of Americans are overweight. Yes, that’s over 64% of us and almost one-third of Americans are obese. In 2004 the weight loss market was worth $46.3 billion and is forecasted to reach over $51 billion by 2008.
We know where our money is going but where are the results? With all the books and the videos and the exercise equipment, why is losing weight so difficult for millions. To answer all these questions we are going to be speaking to Dr. Carol Look. Dr. Look is one of the leading voices of the EFT community. The way I like to put it is Carol to EFT is like Michael Jordan to basketball. She brings EFT to a whole new level which is why we thought it was so important for her to cover this topic. So, welcome Carol.
Dr. Carol Look: Thank you, Jessica. I’m delighted to be talking to you.
Jessica Maya: Me too. It’s such a big topic. Why do you think so many people are overweight and the number keeps increasing?
Dr. Carol Look: I think the big issue is that people keep trying to lose weight with the wrong techniques. People get overweight because they’re sedentary, they eat too much, they have emotions they don’t want to deal with and then they keep trying these diets. The reason the diet industry is so enormous is because the diet books don’t work. They can work temporarily but it’s not about the food. People keep changing their diet plan and going to the gym and they’re missing the major piece which is why we use EFT and Law of Attraction for weight loss so successfully. If you’re using a diet when it’s not about the food then you’re not going to be hitting the nail on the head and getting to the core of the problem.
Jessica Maya: I thought it was just about food and exercise.
Dr. Carol Look: No, people keep saying it’s just about food and exercise but it’s about energy, vibration and it’s about getting to the core reason. Let’s say someone is overeating because they’re totally stressed out and they can’t manage the kids, the spouse, and the job all at once and they just really feel overwhelmed. They use food, it’s very easy to use chocolate or sugar or chips or whatever, and that’s what they’re using to try to tranquilize and shut up their feelings. Then they go, they just change the food plan.
What would a food plan do to that? What would a suggestion to eat more vegetables and fruit and better meals...that doesn’t do anything. You can do that for a couple of weeks, but that’s not the problem. She knows, she or he in my example, the person knows better. They know what to do. They’re not getting to the reason that they’re eating which is they can’t handle the emotions, the overwhelm, the stress and it can be any emotion. It can be childhood issues or it could be more recent or more current problems or conflicts that are bothering the person. But the point that I’m making is that the diets address the food and it’s not about the food.
Jessica Maya: Right, but the number keeps increasing so are you just saying that we’re under more stress every year and really have more emotional problems every year?
Dr. Carol Look: I would say the number keeps increasing for several reasons. One, I think we continue to be mis-educated about food and exercise and what we need to do. People aren’t using the Law of Attraction and the Law of Attraction says ‘What you focus on you will get more of.’ If someone goes to the gym and says ‘I hate my legs and I hate my butt and I want to get rid of these calories’ well the Law of Attraction means that what you’re focused on the opposite is happening. As people become more crazed about fitness as a way to get rid of their body, they are in fact bringing more of it to them. I know you totally understand Law of Attraction that way. You can’t get thin when you feel fat. Mis-education I would say is one of the big things.
I think stress is enormous. What I find with my clients is everybody’s behind the computer for a zillion hours a day. They’re not getting the good nourishing time with their family, friends and loved ones. Their houses or apartments are a mess, they’re a shambles. Their relationships are kind of shallow because no one’s got the time. Whatever’s ramping up in our society about electronics and technology...people are watching...someone said to me they watched three movies the other day. I thought ‘How do you have time?’ They’re behind the computer screen or the television and that’s not nourishing compared to deep spiritual work or having a lot of fun with friends or going out to dinner in a healthy way, not eating for the wrong reasons.
I think we are more stressed out. I think the speed has been turned up a little bit too high. The volume’s up too much and I think food is just easy to use. So the number keeps going up, the population goes up, the number goes up and the solution has not improved. That’s what I would say are the main reasons. The solution...people aren’t getting to the real reason that they’re overeating.
Jessica Maya: Right. What you’re saying basically is people are using this food as a sort of drug?
Dr. Carol Look: Absolutely. A drug to tranquilize whatever feeling they don’t want to deal with. It could be stress, anger, shame, resentment, hurt and loss, maybe someone broke up with them, they could be frustrated that their boss can’t get ahead. It doesn’t matter what the emotion is, if someone is using food to tranquilize like a drug, like alcohol or a drug, it works because it quiets the feeling. If you’re stuffing a bag of cookies into your mouth one by one cookie after cookie, you’re not feeling emotion. That’s what people do with drugs, alcohol, sex, dramatic relationships, computers, the internet...that’s what people do. I don’t want to feel. Why? Because feeling is painful. Some of the feelings that we have to get to aren’t very pleasant and it’s a lot easier to go buy an ice cream cone.
Jessica Maya: Right. So already there’s two factors here. There’s the factor of we’re eating to drug and to numb ourselves from emotion and we’ve become so obsessed with loosing weight that we’re focusing on weight, weight, weight all the time instead of the Law of Attraction.
Dr. Carol Look: Remember what I said. You can’t get thin when you feel fat. People hate their bodies, want to get rid of their fat, gotta’ exercise to burn calories...exercise is very healthy I encourage all my clients and myself. I hope everyone exercises but not with that wrong energy driving it.
Jessica Maya: What about someone who’s saying ‘Of course I have to exercise to lose weight. I’m going to have a heart attack if I don’t lose weight and I have all these problems and now I’m overwhelmed so of course I have to do everything I can to lose weight to save myself.’
Dr. Carol Look: Just in your asking that question is perfect because the energy...I can hear like your suggesting that someone would be saying that and the energy is negative and pushing and awful and desperate and urgent which means the result of that particular exercise, in my opinion, would be less. The vibration is agitated, I have to, I’m desperate, I’m in trouble instead of ‘I would love to take a beautiful walk outside in the park and swing my arms back and forth, enjoy nature, and get the exercise at the same time.’ There’s a whole different energy about it.
Jessica Maya: This kind of...you need to do boot camp mentality is holding us back.
Dr. Carol Look: I think because it’s pushing so hard against what we want that it backfires. My doctorate, I’m a doctorate in hypnosis, clinical hypnosis. I’m not an M.D. I’m not looking at this from that energy perspective when they say a calorie in and a calorie expended is energy. I’m looking at if from vibrational energy as a hypnotist and as an EFT practitioner and the energy that you put into anything. If you go volunteer some place, if you do any project and your energy is regretful and resentful and ‘Ugh, I have to do this and I don’t really want to and I have I have to go to the gym’ you can tell you will not get the same result then if you have a better attitude about it and a vibration that feels like ‘Hey, I’m doing something good for myself.’
If that same patient that you’re talking about had an attitude of ‘You know what? I have gotten myself overweight and I’ve had some health issues, I’d love to start an exercise program that feels fun, that feels manageable, feels like something I can do every day or a few days a week and I’d love to be practicing self-care and be kind to myself and I’d love to involve nature in it instead of just sweating at the gym and I’m looking forward to this. This could be fun.’ Those are the people that stay in the gym. January 1st you go the gym and it’s absolutely packed with people. Those are people who are motivated and by January 15th the only people who are left two weeks later after they’ve made their January or New Year’s resolution are the one’s who feel inspired. If you’re motivated to lose weight and get on the exercise machine instead of feeling inspired and light about it and excited about it, I believe and I have seen time and time again with my practice I have seen different results.
Jessica Maya: Right. For someone who has the doctor preaching to them about losing weight and they look up at the billboard with the skinny person and they’re busy and they have all these pressures, it seems like they have so much going on how do they...where do they start? We know we have to tap, but where do we even begin.
Dr. Carol Look: I would begin with someone like that on the feelings that they have about being overweight. When someone comes to me and they say ‘Okay, I’ve got to lose this and I’ve got to do that and I have to do that,’ I say let’s start with just your feelings toward yourself and often you find profound feelings of shame, guilt and self-hatred. When you’re full of self-hatred, you’re not going to be very good on following a food plan. I’m not saying people should eat crazy junk food and sugar all the time. I’m saying that if you pursue a food plan from the wrong vibration, it’s not gonna’ work very well.
I would start with the big feelings, the shame, the guilt, the self-hatred...many people who come to me or who buy the products and are using EFT are saying things like ‘I have lost and gained the weight 50 times.’ They say ‘Well this is my tenth time on the yo-yo circuit’ and they’re embarrassed, they’re fed up, they’re frustrated and those are the feelings that you start to tap on first. You could also go for the cravings. Let’s say they tell you specifically chips or chocolate or cookies are my problem, then you can have them tap for that right away and they will find an immediate result in their cravings for the food.
Stress triggers the craving. When someone has a craving it feels 100% real. It feels like it is about the food. It feels like they have to have the craving right now, they have to have the food...but if you tap while you’re having a craving you start to calm down because the tapping gets into the electricity and the energy system and you start to understand why you want that food right now.
Jessica Maya: I’m just absorbing this all in.
Dr. Carol Look: It’s a lot.
Jessica Maya: It is a lot.
Dr. Carol Look: It’s from a different perspective because we were all taught, I’m older than you are, but we were all taught eat less and exercise. That’s fantastic. I’m not knocking that except with the attitude and the energy behind it.
Jessica Maya: What if we change the energy behind it and you’re still eating the foods that are gonna’ make you fat.
Dr. Carol Look: I never recommend to people. I don’t give dietary advice or nutritional advice because it’s just not my specialty. I don’t recommend that someone try to do it vibrationally and still eat tons of potato chips and junk food. Junk food is just not good for you so what are you thinking about doing to your body? How come you’re drawn to it?
What you can do with EFT and the Law of Attraction is find yourself, help yourself be drawn to the really healthy better foods anyway and not be so hung up on ‘How much is this calorie and how much is that food worth and what am I doing to my body here?’ It’s almost like an energy of relaxation about the problem starts you down the right direction. People get so hung up on ‘I lost a half pound’ or ‘I didn’t lose a pound.’ It takes some time. You can’t lose it overnight.
Jessica Maya: Should we be weighing ourselves constantly? It seems like a lot of people also have an obsession with the scale.
Dr. Carol Look: I would say the obsession with the scale is negative and hurtful to people because then they use the number to make themselves in a good mood or a bad mood. I don’t think that’s fair. In the beginning of someone doing a proper weight loss program and they’ve got the energy right and they’re tapping and they’re feeling good, if they get on the scale and for some reason it hasn’t dropped yet, then they’re in danger of sabotaging. I say to people...first of all I say ‘Know yourself. Trust yourself and know yourself.’
Are you a good person to be getting on the scale every day or are you gonna’ sabotage your program because you’ve just seen the scale won’t budge and that gets you frustrated or feel like your on a plateau so now you’re gonna’ go eat something because you’re frustrated. I say to people it really is individual. People are pretty honest about it. They’ll say ‘Okay, you got me I know I’m not someone who...I can’t look at the scale for a month. I’ve got to just do my program and feel excited about it and feel inspired.’ Then, find other ways to put you in a good mood. Maybe you don’t feel well in your clothes or in your pants or something.
Instead of getting on the scale to prove that you haven’t lost any weight, how about doing a gratitude list. How about doing some writing or meditating or walking that feels really, again, the word nourishing. We’re trying to nourish ourselves with junk food and it doesn’t work.
Jessica Maya: Then when we get off it it’s almost like we’re torturing ourselves with the scale.
Dr. Carol Look: I’m sure it’s sabotaged a lot of what happens. One of the most important questions I ask all clients with any kind of addiction and I’ve seen food be an addiction and be used as an addictive substance, I say to them ‘What is the downside of losing weight?’ They’ll say ‘Downside? Don’t be silly, there’s no downside what do you mean?’ I keep asking ‘What do you think a possible downside is to losing the weight’ and people will finally come up with answers and they’ll say ‘Oh, well I was on a plan last year and the year before that and the year before that and I always gain it back.
Even though I’m coming to you as an EFT practitioner or as a hypnotist I don’t really believe that I’m gonna’ get there. I actually feel discouraged before I even start.’ If you don’t get to that...that’s the energy that’s going on with people. What they do is run to the gym and they start a new food plan but they’re not addressing the real issue underneath it, the core issue which is ‘I’m mad at myself, I feel discouraged, I don’t believe I can do it, I don’t think this will work for me.’ Those are critical feelings to tap on because otherwise what they’ll do is do two weeks and they’ll be great and they’ll be following whatever plan they’re on and then they’ll feel literally compelled.
They will feel like they cannot control themselves and they must sabotage. Some people will answer the question ‘What’s the downside’ they’ll answer ‘I don’t feel good enough. I don’t feel I deserve success.’ Other people will say ‘I don’t want to go through the trouble to maintain it. I’m convinced I’ll be deprived.’ Deprivation is a huge feeling that needs to be tapped on when people are doing any kind of giving up something. If they’re giving up sugar or giving up cigarettes or giving up alcohol you’ve got to deal with the energy and the feeling of deprivation.
Jessica Maya: What seems also like a common topic is, the downside of losing weight, for some woman, especially women it can seem very scary.
Dr. Carol Look: I’ve got clients who will say, and this doesn’t happen for everybody, but some people will say ‘If I lose the weight, I won’t feel protected any more.’ This is just one example. I’ll say ‘Why do you need protection?’ They’ll say something about the opposite sex. Somehow they were attacked or now sometimes this can go back to childhood issues of abuse, adolescent issues about boyfriends and girlfriends, it could be anything but they don’t feel safe or protected without the extra layer of fat around their body.
That’s something, again, if someone comes in and the practitioner isn’t really dealing with that issue, if you’re not asking why might you sabotage the weight loss program that you’re on what do you think might happen...if you don’t get to that reason for the client’s who have that, then they will do really well for a couple of weeks or a couple of months and then when they feel the anxiety of losing the weight...losing weight makes a lot of people feel anxious. They feel exposed, they don’t feel protected, they don’t feel safe anymore. They will say to you ‘It’s like another person is inside of me eating, it’s not me. I can’t control it.’
For the mind it’s much more important to feel safe than to be thin. That will override anything else about ‘Oh, I will look good in this dress or I’ll look good in this suit or I need to do this or feel so good,’ you don’t care about that if safety is an issue for you. So yes, there is a percentage of the population for whom it’s critical to get to the safety issues around men, the opposite sex, the same sex, something is going on for them about their body and either sexuality or being protected.
Jessica Maya: Right. Then someone who’s listening to this should kind of even maybe re-listen to it of all the different aspects of what it might be and just see what resonates with them?
Dr. Carol Look: There are so many aspects because some people might come into my office and say ‘I’ve been overeating since I was five years old.’ Very different treatment than someone who’s been overeating since their divorce five years ago. If someone has used food since they were a kid and that’s how they’re family taught them to deal with stress, then that’s very different than someone who’s just been lonely and the man doesn’t feel good since the divorce and he’s just overeating and over drinking since then and it’s not a lifelong problem for him. You want to treat it differently because there are different issues and anxieties to get to.
Jessica Maya: When we read books that say ‘lose 20 pounds in two weeks’ and so people look at EFT and a lot of them want to know how long it is gonna’ take and what can I expect.
Dr. Carol Look: Here’s the difference. It’s not the speed it’s the consistency and keeping it off for good. If you get...there are some...I guess there are some liquid plans and some other food plans out there and crazy fad diets...I guess people if they have enough weight on them that they could lose 20 pounds in two weeks or something. I imagine that’s possible I image some people have had it either starvation or other reasons. You’ve got to understand that can’t be good for your body. If the body feels deprived because suddenly it has shed 20 pounds quickly and without being properly nourished, the body will then bounce back. That’s what I mean it’s not about the food, it’s not about the diet.
The body will bounce back and try to maintain and hold on to the calories you’re giving it so it changes your metabolism, gets it all confused and so when you’re talking about the speed of the achieve, the speed that you can use EFT for your cravings. You can use EFT for your daily stress and everything that happens during the day. You can use EFT for the past, what happened in your past that taught you that eating or being overweight is good for you. Somehow you learned it as a coping tool. You can use EFT for the future. ‘I’m afraid of going to the holiday party at work and that I’m gonna’ eat too much’ or ‘I’m afraid that when I’m alone at night I’m gonna’ eat too much.’ Whatever the future issue is. It’s about consistency and permanency. That’s what’s so exciting about it. You will lose as much weight as your body can tolerate losing physiologically, but you can really speed it up with Law of Attraction and EFT.
Jessica Maya: Let’s go a little bit more into this Law of Attraction. You said we can’t do it as long as we keep thinking that we’re fat. Do we tap the change of belief or do we just get affirmations?
Dr. Carol Look: Tapping on the belief is wonderful. In other words, when someone feels fat and ugly and discouraged and just hopeless about it, their energy is in that place and then the Law of Attraction will bring that to them and they won’t be able to get a leg up. They won’t get any traction. Yes, you can either tap on all those emotions until you feel excited again and inspired. That’s what you’re going for. You’re going for that feeling of ‘I feel inspired to stick to my plan. I’d love to go to the gym this morning. That would be fun. I enjoy how I feel at the end of a workout. I’d love to take the dog for a brisk walk. This could be a good...’ That feeling is very different from ‘Oh, okay I’ve got to drag my rear end to the gym.’ That’s the energy. That’s what we’re talking about...change that and shift that and you can shift it with the Law of Attraction by focusing on positive things about your body.
I had one woman come in and she said ‘There is nothing positive about my body.’ We talked and talked and talked and talked and finally she said ‘You know what, okay, alright I like this part of my body.’ It’s just that little tiny shift in energy. The people listening who are advanced in Law of Attraction and they know all about it, they’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. That feeling of inspiration completely different as a basis point or a pushing off point to then go ahead and eat healthy food and enjoy an exercise program. Do your tapping. When someone feels crabby and hates themselves, guess what? It’s hard to do tapping. They don’t feel like taking care of themselves.
Jessica Maya: This is great! Basically when we’re using EFT for losing weight it’s almost your partner for losing weight. I know so many people who lose weight and like you said they’re there for two weeks and then that’s when they stop because they don’t have the consistency. You’re saying this EFT and this Law of Attraction is what actually keeps you on the road to do what you already naturally know, what you need to do for your body.
Dr. Carol Look: Absolutely. What we could do is we could take through classic cases that people talk about with weight loss and then say ‘I do great in the beginning and then I have cravings.’ Well, what do you do when you have cravings? You do EFT. Then ‘I had too much stress.’ What do you do when you’re too stressed out? You use EFT. Then ‘My sibling or parent or somebody or a friend said ‘Oh, come on go ahead, why don’t you have a piece of chocolate cake so I fell into peer pressure.’ What do you do with that? EFT. What do you do with impatience when it’s not happening fast enough? EFT. What I recommend to people is that they do EFT every day. I say, if you’re waiting...if you’re in the car on your way to a donut shop you’re not gonna’ do the tapping because you’ve got that head...you have the feeling and emotion...you’re gone. It is like an addict, someone who’s already called their dealer for cocaine. They’re gone you can’t intervene. They’ve gone too far. The compulsive piece that kicks in with overeating and using drugs and alcohol is so strong that you’re not gonna’ say ‘You know what, that’s interesting I’m in my car on the way to have a binge on something and I think I’ll stop and pull over and tap.’ You’re too far gone. I recommend to people, most people are too far gone. I recommend tap every day. Tap on what?
Jessica Maya: In the morning?
Dr. Carol Look: Morning, noon and night. Ten minutes, five minutes. Do five minutes in the morning. De-stress yourself. Do five minutes at lunch time before you go eat. Go into the restroom at work and tap on yourself for the stress of the day and how you’re boss wanted this deadline and this and that whatever profession you’re in and you’ll find yourself calmer and your going to be eating mindfully. What people do is they eat completing blindly. They’re just talking and eating and stuffing food in because that’s all they want to do is shut-up the feeling.
When you do the tapping you can relax and feel calm and confident to say ‘I just want to eat what my body needs. What do I feel like today? I’d love to have a good nourishing meal’ instead of the way people usually do at work. I remember being in an office and we all just went out and ate as quickly as we could in 20 minutes to get back to the office and it wasn’t healthy at all. It wasn’t necessarily junk food but it’s just you’re not paying attention to your body and to what you’re eating.
Jessica Maya: Can we do some examples of how we can tap?
Dr. Carol Look: Yes. I think...why don’t we do one on cravings. You’re gonna’ be my subject?
Jessica Maya: Okay, obviously.
Dr. Carol Look: Why don’t we do one on cravings because I think so many people get confused and when the craving comes over them it’s so strong they don’t feel powerful. They feel completely helpless. Let’s say you’ve got a craving...unless you have any cravings. Do you have any cravings?
Jessica Maya: No. I get my cravings now and then.
Dr. Carol Look: You don’t have any right now that we can tap?
Jessica Maya: No, I don’t have any right now.
Dr. Carol Look: Let’s just pretend that you’ve got a craving for chocolate.
Jessica Maya: Okay.
Dr. Carol Look: What we would do is just...I tell people to start at the karate chop point and they can do this in two ways. They can either when they start to feel the craving they can put a chocolate bar in front of them and say ‘Ooo...I’m starting to feel the craving come up.’ Then you start tapping or you can imagine yourself in the future. Let’s say you eat too much when you’re in a car or late at night when you’re alone and picture that scenario and get the feeling in your body, you know how we do it with EFT, and then tap for that.
Jessica Maya: Okay.
Dr. Carol Look: Let’s pretend you’re craving for a chocolate right now, what is it on a scale of one to ten?
Jessica Maya: I’m feeling a seven.
Dr. Carol Look: Seven, okay. We’ll start on the karate chop point. Even though I have this craving for chocolate.
Jessica Maya: Even though I have this craving for chocolate.
Dr. Carol Look: I deeply and profoundly accept myself anyway.
Jessica Maya: I deeply and profoundly accept myself anyway.
Dr. Carol Look: Even though I can feel these really strong cravings.
Jessica Maya: Even though I can feel these really strong cravings.
Dr. Carol Look: I really want to eat the chocolate.
Jessica Maya: I really want to eat the chocolate.
Dr. Carol Look: I choose to relax and feel calm.
Jessica Maya: I choose to relax and feel calm.
Dr. Carol Look: Even though I have this incredibly strong craving right now.
Jessica Maya: Even though I have this incredibly strong craving right now.
Dr. Carol Look: And it makes me anxious.
Jessica Maya: And it makes me anxious.
Dr. Carol Look: I definitely want to eat it.
Jessica Maya: I definitely want to eat it.
Dr. Carol Look: I choose to feel calm and peaceful.
Jessica Maya: I choose to feel calm and peaceful.
Dr. Carol Look: Tap on the eyebrow point. I have this craving for chocolate.
Jessica Maya: I have this craving for chocolate.
Dr. Carol Look: The side of the eye. My intense craving for chocolate.
Jessica Maya: My intense craving for chocolate.
Dr. Carol Look: Under the eye. This intense craving.
Jessica Maya: This intense craving.
Dr. Carol Look: Under the nose. Please don’t take it away from me.
Jessica Maya: Please don’t take it away from me.
Dr. Carol Look: Chin. I want what I want.
Jessica Maya: I want what I want.
Dr. Carol Look: Collar bone. I’m afraid I’ll be anxious without it.
Jessica Maya: I’m afraid I’ll be anxious without it.
Dr. Carol Look: Under the arm. The food makes me calm down.
Jessica Maya: The food makes me calm down.
Dr. Carol Look: Top of the head. The food makes me calm.
Jessica Maya: The food makes me calm.
Dr. Carol Look: Eyebrow. This intense craving.
Jessica Maya: This intense craving.
Dr. Carol Look: Side of the eye. I want to feel calm instead.
Jessica Maya: I want to feel calm instead.
Dr. Carol Look: Under the eye. I want to feel calm and have a choice.
Jessica Maya: I want to feel calm and have a choice.
Dr. Carol Look: Under the nose. I want to feel calm and have a choice.
Jessica Maya: I want to feel calm and have a choice.
Dr. Carol Look: Chin. I release the craving.
Jessica Maya: I release the craving.
Dr. Carol Look: Collar bone. No I don’t.
Jessica Maya: No I don’t.
Dr. Carol Look: Under the arm. I release the craving.
Jessica Maya: I release the craving.
Dr. Carol Look: Top of the head. I choose to feel calm and peaceful.
Jessica Maya: I choose to feel calm and peaceful.
Dr. Carol Look: Take a deep breath and then I would ask you to measure it and scale it again.
Jessica Maya: I actually am getting a reading. Can I tell you.
Dr. Carol Look: Sure.
Jessica Maya: I have like five.
Dr. Carol Look: Five. That’s good. Also what happens to people and they often say ‘That’s funny the craving is going down but another emotion is coming up.’ They start to make the connection between the emotion that makes them have a craving and what’s going on in their body. The craving starts for the chips and the chocolate to go down and then they say ‘That’s weird. I’m feeling a little bit lonely or hurt or angry or resentful or exhausted.’ Sometimes people are just having cravings because their body is out of whack because they’re exhausted because they’re running around too much. Very typical.
Jessica Maya: When you talk about cravings, do you find that cravings are something that you are tapping on after you go through what might be the emotions of even going on a diet?
Dr. Carol Look: It could be either way it depends on the person. If someone is just really fraught with cravings. They really have a hard time with cravings, I would do that first. I would go ahead and put the food in front of them and see how high the craving is, zero to ten, and start tapping and tapping and tapping. Then other feelings will come up. Other people if they say ‘It’s not really cravings, it’s just that I tend to overeat all the time’ and every day you add that up over the years and so they end up 40 pounds overweight after ten years. Then they can talk about other issues. ‘I don’t want to start the diet, I’m reluctant, I’m not sure I’m inspired,’ whatever the target seems to be that would really fit them.
Jessica Maya: Right. Can we do some tapping on going from the motivation mentally to feeling inspired?
Dr. Carol Look: Yes. Excellent. I tend to do two rounds like that. I do one round on the problem and then I move them a little bit more toward the solution.
Jessica Maya: Okay.
Dr. Carol Look: Let’s say the person comes to me and they say “I know I should lose the weight, but I’m reluctant I don’t really feel like it.’ That’s a very common feeling that many people listening I know are going ‘Yep, that’s me.’ We’ll start there and see if we can move the energy and see if people can get help from that. Karate chop. Even though I know I should lose weight.
Jessica Maya: Even though I know I should lose weight.
Dr. Carol Look: That’s what my doctor says.
Jessica Maya: That’s what my doctor says.
Dr. Carol Look: That’s what my family says.
Jessica Maya: That’s what my family says.
Dr. Carol Look: I really resent it.
Jessica Maya: I really resent it.
Dr. Carol Look: I don’t want to feel deprived.
Jessica Maya: I don’t want to feel depressed/
Dr. Carol Look: Even though they say I should lose weight.

Jessica Maya: I look forward to my success.
Dr. Carol Look: Take a deep breath. Now there’s an example of both EFT as well as Law of Attraction. We moved from the problem to a solution. I could feel the energy changing in me.
Jessica Maya: I felt it in me too.
Dr. Carol Look: Wasn’t that...I mean we’re not even working on that issue and I could really feel the change with the wording and the tapping.
Jessica Maya: You did three. Do you get from going to the positive to positive negative and then all positive.
Dr. Carol Look: No, I usually start with the negative and sometimes I put in a positive there. It varies on how I feel intuitively with the person so as a general rule you could do the negative first and then move to more positive and then yes, more positive. If the person is rejecting the positive statements like when I said the phrase ‘I appreciate my body.’ Let’s say the person would say ‘I do not.’ Then you want to go back to the negatives because that’s where their vibration is.
People say ‘Carol, you’re not supposed to use with Law of Attraction. If you focus on the problem you’re gonna’ get more.’ But the person is already vibrating in the space of ‘I hate my body. I hate diets. I’ll get deprived.’ They’re already there so you’re not doing anything but nailing it with EFT. Then they have the space and the room to move to the positive.
Jessica Maya: Just saying it sometimes is such a huge relief. That is amazing. Carol, thank you so much.
Dr. Carol Look: My pleasure.
